What is a drencher system? Drenchers are a system of water heads that are used for the fire protection. In contrast to sprinklers which are found internally, drenchers are normally found on the exterior of a building to protect against a fire from a neighbouring building. The Three THREE MAIN TYPES OF DRENCHERS ARE: There are basically three types of drenchers: roof drenchers, wall or curtain drenchers and window drenchers. Roof drenchers are positioned on the roof ridge and throw a curtain of water upwards. Wall or curtain drenchers throw a curtain of water over openings or portions of a building most likely to admit fire. Window drenchers position horizontally level with the top of a window so as to protect the opening. A drencher system consists of the follows components: A fire drencher system is a special type of fire protection system which is used to control fires, especially in industrial and commercial areas where the possibility of explosion is high. It uses water as the extinguishing medium and aims at controlling the fire in its incipient stage itself. Fire drenchers can be installed both indoors as well as outdoors. A fire drencher system is composed of the following components:- Water source Pump unit Distribution piping Control fittings Alarm device Special nozzles or water heads The water heads are like those of sprinklers and may be sealed or unsealed. (Unsealed systems are activated by manually turning on a main valve in the event of a fire, while sealed systems are activated automatically) Drencher system is a special type of fire protection system which is used to control fires, especially in industrial and commercial areas where the possibility of explosion is high.
